Guest Speaker I think so..

Today I was invited back to my old high school, to talk the current year 12s about my HSC Art experience. It was so great to give them tips I even may have inspired a few of the students. I also talked about my time as a first year student studying at the College of Fine Arts. A very great experience!

Website Design

I have an internship with Saber Astronautics as their designer for a new system working with satellites. I have been asked to come up with a few mockups for them, and thought I would share my various designs. I have also designed some buttons which I will post up soon!

This was a longer designer (the first design). There would although be to much scrolling for the user.

The second design with the blue theme.

The third design with the gold theme.

(NOTE: The images of satellites are not my own, they are placed in there for the purpose of the mock up, I do not claim these images as my own, and will not be used in the final design. Image 1: National geographic, Image 2: sourced through creative commons)

Summer Projects

Now university has ended for the year, and my four month break has started, I have decided it would be a good idea to make up some creative projects for myself. Especially since I am traveling to New Zealand I think its a great time to experiment!

Here are my few ideas;
1. With my parents old vintage Voigtlander Vitoret LR camera (late 1960s) and my Polaroid 600 I am going to experiment with old photography methods and maybe even try and do some developing myself.

Retro Polaroid 600

(Note: both of the above are not my photos and I do not claim them as my own)

2. Another project is to do up this lovely Holden VL Commodore (1987) exterior and interior!! So excited. This photo was taken by my mum. I'm planning a cream and cherry red colour scheme.

3. Is to do a course in Digital Media. I really would love to try some 3D work and improve my skills/learn new ones. After doing a typography course with the Australian Type Foundry I have gained a new love for short courses.

I will post up all my summer projects so stay posted.

Wearable Piece

Enjoy!

Every individual in their life experiences change and growth. This would be different for each person. For my wearable design I wanted to create a head piece that changes as the person grows from experience. My concept is based on my childhood, which was traumatic as I experienced various anxiety problems, which made me withdrawn and scared of various experiences. My wearable transforms into who I have become today, a more confident and less anxious individual.

SCROLL DOWN TO SEE NEWER STUFF

PROJECT DEVELOPMENT- WEARABLE PIECE TELLING A STORY

I have decided to make a wearable head piece, made of leather. This is based on my struggle with being shy and over anxious as a young child. The piece is not only interactive in the way that you wear it. It can be altered to show growth and change. In its first stage it will cover the head including the face. This connection will be made with wax thread at the front. This thread can be undone and the pieces can be clipped back away from the face make a curved hairpiece, representing who I have become today.

Initially I was inspired by Una Burke, she works with wearable leather pieces in the most beautiful way. It inspired me to try working with leather and to try and create something as creative.  Her main concept of her wearable pieces is dealing with and over coming human trauma. If you love leather wearables you should check it out.

Stay posted for more on this project.

This is the leather and tools my dad purchased for me the other day.
Thanks dad!

Concept drawings.

These amazing stamping tools (sorry the photo isn't great).
 A butterfly and floral decorations.

The underpinning framework of the headpiece. (Paper model prototype)

One side of what is should look like. All pieces can be folded back like at the top.

Front part, this will be more even and connected with the wax thread.

DAY ONE; Final Model

 Dying the cow hide.

Struggling to get it even.

Turned out pretty well overall.

Framework for final headpiece

DAY TWO; Final Model

I cut the strips to go around the face and as always I made things difficult
for myself and decided I'd try hand stitching.

So here I am stitching and its very time consuming.

Doesn't look too bad on the front until you get to the back.

The back.

Trying mums sewing machine.

It works and looks beautiful! As well as being super easy. Now I just need
to buy more wax thread tomorrow when the shops are open.

DAY 3; Piecing together the past

 Pushing in the rivets holes.

Stitching the leather on the machine.

The beginnings of slowly piecing it together.

3 done in an hour.

The eyelets to put the leather lace through.

The back so far, I have done about 1/4 of the strips I need to do.

Its amazing how much time it takes. I plan on finishing this tomorrow.
Ill leave the front till I finnish as a surprise. ;)

DAY 4 and DAY 5; Finalising

I didn't post on yesterdays because it quiet stressful and today Im still trying to figure out an issue
and with 2 days left at home where all the tools I need are Im freaking out! It is almost done though
so I think Ill be fine. Anyways here are some photos of my progress.

Placing the rivets in

Almost there!

FINISHED!! ( Tomorrow I will post a video and photos of me wearing it get excited!!)
